Re: Nomic 16.0

I like orangedragonfire's logic so: I cast my vote against shirosuzume's motion to require a vote when making a motion. Also, I will cast my vote in favor of orangedragonfire's motion to stop motion spamming IF I am assured that one is allowed to withdraw one's motion. Otherwise I may make a motion ...

Re: Nomic 16.0

I make a motion to have this motion passed. For the purposes of voting, this motion shall be referred to as Snark's motion to pass a self-referencing motion.

Do I need to vote in favor of my own motion? Or is it implied?

Re: Answer a Question Thread

To make this thread infinitely more interesting, I'd like each poster to 1. Ask a questions that make sense with the answer in the post above them and then 2. State a random answer for which the next poster can find a question. I hereby ask the OP to add this to the rules. And now, a question for Je...

Re: An easier math(s) puzzle . . .

Some interesting things I found in this list, which might require some unusual solutions: f(2,1,?)=5 f(2,1,?)=8 f(3,2,?)=8 f(4,2,?)=3 (mainly ?=7 and 8 ) f(8,2,?)=7 Here's all 10 solutions for the first 4 of these 5 puzzles. I'll edit this post to add more if/when I find the solution for the last p...

Re: Escape from Raptors

You forgot to provide a method for breathing in outer space. You fall, unconscious, back to earth. And you can guess what happens next:
Spoiler:
Raptors eat you.

I hire lady raptors to seduce the males. While they're otherwise occupied, I sit comfortably in my house eating Poptarts.

Re: An easier math(s) puzzle . . .

I'm pretty sure that mfb missed the rule that each number must be used exactly one time. Given that rule, a solution for f(x,y)=z doesn't necessarily imply a solution for f(x,y,?) = z unless ? = 0 or 1 (since they're the additive and multiplicative identities). I haven't verified 0-8 for mfb's f(4,3...

Re: An easier math(s) puzzle . . .

I found another set of numbers with which this puzzle can be done using the same rules as the OP's but including 0 as MostlyHarmless suggested. If the OP's puzzle is expressed as f(7,2,?) = 8 then my puzzle is f(3,2,?) = 3. My solutions are below: 3 = 3 + (0^2) 3 = 2 + (1^3) 3 = 3 + ...

Re: An easier math(s) puzzle . . .

First off, I am aware that I'm replying to a 5-year-old topic. I found original equations (different from those of MFHodge) for 1, 3 and 9 and copycat equations for 5 and 8. 8 = 7 + (1^2) 8 = 7 + 3 - 2 8 = 72/9 8 = 7 + .2*5 8 = .2 + 7.8 I'd be interested in seeing any truly new solutions for...

I, sadly, am among the ranks of the earth banishing fools. No wonder that the ozone layer's gone to hell.

I'm off to repent and then practice my earth-invoking stars. God knows how many I'll have to draw before balance is restored.

I learn so many things from xkcd.
