um... Boys have STDs too, they're just usually harder to test for. Am I just imagining that there's this undertone of "eww sluts!" to this discussion?

Re: Philip K. Dick fans?

ARG ARG ARG!!! I just got in the mood to pick up Valis again and finish it and it turns out I left it in my boyfriend's dorm which is currently closed for spring break. I have the other two books in the trilogy RIGHT HERE but I can't read them cause I haven't finished Valis!!! Oh, woe is me... More ...

Re: should my girlfriend call child services

In situations like this, they will post a club member (read: big scary biker that doesn't like people that mess with children) in front of the house in rotating shifts for 24 hours a day, until the situation is resolved. (most of the time they don't do this. Their primary actions are as a "Big...

Re: Primus!

I love Primus. Unfortunately the albums I own are currently on my list of "music I must not listen to anymore for a while or else I'll make myself sick of it and then I'd have to shoot myself" Is there anyone currently around who comes close to rivaling the pure awesomeness that is Les Cla...

Riddick

I recently saw the Chronicles of Riddick (watched Pitch Black last summer) and decided it was the best movie EVER. I also had not slept for a couple of nights. Did anyone else think this movie fucking rocked, or was my judgment simply impaired? ...heehee... teacup... hmm. Time for a new signature pe...

Re: should my girlfriend call child services

Perhaps the OP was wondering if anyone could clarify what might be expected to happen if child services were to be called? I know that if I was in any similar situation I would be worried about figuring that out before taking action-- i.e., is the child (/teen) in question going to be put in foster ...

Re: How do adults make friends?

Oh... pooh... I got so excited about meetup.com but it turns out my town is too small. The newest meetups are from months and years ago. [sigh] I shouldn't even be complaining, I have friends... kind of. I think I have trouble remembering that third stage that someone was talking about, where you ne...

Re: Strange or even mildly amusing things about your body

I have one long-ish (like maybe half an inch) hair that grows from the bottom of my chin. Sometimes when I haven't plucked it, I tug on it pensively as if it was a goatee. I have an invisible, marble-sized lump under the skin of my right fore-arm which I hope is not a tumor. Finally, sometimes when ...

Re: Man gets in trouble for reading a book.

I don't think it's all been said. What about if he had, in fact, been reading material which was blatantly racist (like, a hypothetical KKK equivalent of Mein Kampf)? It seems like that would change many people's opinions on whether the actions against him were justified. What if he read racist trea...

What was with the spaced-out chick who jumped off the ship? Did I just imagine that she looked familiar? I'm kind of pissed off about the Oceanic 6 thing, I don't want to know who dies ahead of time. And... yeah, I think the writers do hate happiness-- I mean, every time there's a happy, healthy cou...

I would totally do it (assuming the clone was of the hypothetical, identical memories type) and then my clone and me would be best friends and sometimes we'd get drunk and make out with each other for shits and giggles.

I think most of you are missing the point of the exercise. The point is not to persuade people to convert to candlelight--that's just not going to happen. And although the event might be promoted as an awareness-raiser, I doubt anyone who isn't already concerned about the environment will bother par...

I agree that overall Se7en was better than Saw, but I liked the ending of Saw better than the ending of Se7en. Maybe because of what you said, with the aftermath bit. Actually, I think Se7en's ending disappointed me because I felt like the killing of the wife was inconsistant with the guy's ...

Also, defective books lacking in proper punctuation and graceful language should not be burned. They should be kept as a warning for younger generations, or in the case of certain books , a source of humour for all. BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!!! "'Prepare to embrace your creators in the stygian haunts ...

Re: Books everyone seems to hate that you think are good

The Catcher in the Rye is one of my favorite books, and anyone who says "But he's a whiner!" deserves a broken nose. Agreed very much. The reason he is a whiner is the whole idea of the book. He believes everyone is a phony and only lies to themselves while he is the biggest phony of them...

Re: INTRO THREAD THE THIRD

Hi, I've been reading xkcd for about a year now. I don't have the hard sciences background that a lot of you seem to, but the overall tone of the comics and forums gives me the warm fuzzies, and little things keep reminding me of the best qualities of some of my favorite people. I'm a recent college...

I can't wait to see dragons vs undead.

Argh! I can't decide whether to read book 5 when it comes out, or do my best to forget about the whole series for, like, a decade so that I can pick it back up after the last books are all published.

Love the man. I need to finish reading VALIS (it's been temporarily banished to the stack of excellent-books-I'm-not-in-the-mood-for). I feel like I heard that another of his books is being made into a movie soon; am I confusing it with something else?

Something with terrorists plotting to smuggle barrels of some nasty bio or chemical weapon into a stadium. In the part I saw, they kill their truck-driver hostage by shutting him in a room with one of the barrels after shooting holes in it. I later had a very terrifying yet sexy dream about it.
