Re: proabably won't be built PC build?

Well if you play EvE Online, you absolutely want a 5670 or better; EvE likes to keep up with DX releases and they're working on DX11 now. Besides, if you have good gaming hardware, you will find games that take advantage. Also, Handbrake may support ATI's hardware transcoder for 5000-series hardware...

Re: Question about possible misuse of an xkcd strip

It is legally impossible for a 501(c)(3) that its operations be commercial. And it's not private, nor compensation.

Re: Question about possible misuse of an xkcd strip

Unless you're some kind of weird for-profit private school nothing you sell is "for profit", it is non-profit fund-raising. If your school is public or any other type of 501(c)(3) you're in the clear. Be sure to attribute, including a notice of the license, e.g. "(C) Randall Munroe, x...

When I was a kid, my dad owned a restaurant; next door, there was a diner, and our staff sorta each crossed the street at lunchtime. Anyway, I remember getting onion rings, extracting the onion, filling the ring with ketchup, and leaving only a pile of soggy onion. I think my dad put 'em on his burg...

I also agree with all the above storage advice. I know for a fact Blender's CPU-limited beyond 2GB so 12GB of RAM isn't really all that important, and even Blender suggests 8GB as "production-level". Split the difference.

Unless you're doing photo and video editing, you won't gain much gaming potential out of twelve gigs of RAM. Get six and a better video card, like a 5850.

Nah, it's somewhere between a 9600 GT (or GSO, they were equals) and GTX. Faster clocks and more cores than the GT, slower and fewer than the GTX. Granted, the newer architecture should be more efficient, but let's face it, it only needs to push 1366x768 pixels. Anyway, nothing's better than real te...

It does sound like static discharge because it takes something like 1500 volts to jump a couple of millimeters, and the jackets around the jacks are most definitely ground. It's quite possible that you're building up static from the plenum insulator if it's a different material than your previous ca...

Any voltage conversion creates noise, even DC-DC. AC-DC is palatable, because it hits that magical 30Hz multiple. (Brains operate at about 30Hz.) Ideally, it's at an imperceptible pitch.
