Re: 1190: "Time"

5 million years ago, the Mediterranean was disconnected from the Atlantic ocean and mostly evaporated. When the Straits of Gibraltar broke open, the Mediterranean mostly refilled over only 2 years. Away from the Straits, that would look amount to a sustained, and quite confusing sea level rise.

Re: What-If 0050: "Extreme Boating"

If you put too much power through an electrical superconductor, it will stop superconducting. Likewise, superfluid helium3 will stop being a superfluid if you exceed its limits. Oars at moderate speeds will experience no friction. Move the oars fast enough, and they won't be in a superfluid anymore....

Once you understand stick figure world gravity, flight is much easier to understand.

It should be pretty easy to prove Einstein wrong. He wrote a lot of stuff, including personal letters. A very high percentage of what he wrote has been saved. A lot of what he wrote, wasn't in his native language. It was all written before whiteout, spell check and grammar checkers. If we start sear...

I think Megan's little pile of sand is a high water level indicator. Even if she doesn't look until after the water receded, she will be able to tell that if the pile is gone, the water had reached that high. It will make the water level rise more interesting for us watchers. There are enough pixels...

Let's try inverting the problem: Could there exist a planet where dropping raw steaks was an effective way of cooking them? The answer is obviously yes. Look for planets with a low enough gravity to atmosphere thickness ratio, so the drop time would be long enough for effective cooking. From that li...

If it is more a matter of exposure, i.e. the alcohol can only kill germs on the outside of dense germ clusters, then there is no risk of developed immunity. All that counts in this situation is if the germs are able to reproduce and cause illness after the human uses hand sanitizer. If the germs ev...

It would be way less messy to reshape the earth. Move mass from the equator to the poles, until the Earth is the right shape to spin at the appropriate speed.
