66. is an internet ip, rather than an internal network ip, right? It seems your desktop is connected directly to the internet and your router isn't routing.

In the setup tab->advanced routing, is NAT turned on?

Screen is far easier to use than backgrounding processes, try here for a tutorial. Basically it lets you have a session that doesn't close when you disconnect, and which you can reconnect to later.

In theory you could remove the actual flash memory chips from the usb thingy and put them into a working identical model, as it'll be the interface, not the chips themselves, that have broken (I think). This is probably very difficult.
