Misconception: Using "gay" as a pejorative is harmless. I am a gay male, and let me tell you, there is can be a lot of harm done by using the word "gay" the refer to things that are just generally bad. It was a major cause of my self-hatred-filled early teenage years. Now, I am m...

Re: Interesting Covers

This guy, Doveman, recorded a cover of the entire Footloose soundtrack, and it is available for free. dovemanmusic.com It is really weird, laid back and slow and not close to the originals, but I have fallen in love with his cover of "Let's Hear It For The Boy". Edit: So I just ...

What I said That's a good idea, but it suffers a problem. If you are on the shore of an ocean or something, and you throw the bottle, it'll most likely just get caught by the waves and brought back to that same shore , most likely around the same spot too. And if it does get out to open ocean, it's...

I just bought, and then devoured Miranda July's No One Belongs Here More Than You , and loved it. I promptly watched her movie, Me and You and Everyone We Know , and also fell in love. I was just wondering if anyone else had opinions on this marvelous lady. My opinion is that her style of writing is...

Requiem for a Dream may be my favorite movie ever, and the worst scene for me is at the very end when Ellen Burstyn is at the hospital, and her friends come to visit her, and she doesn't recognize them, and then they go out and hug each other. I can't describe it well, but it is... heart wr...

America was never mentioned in the movie. I mean, the whole "Buy n Large" was clearly a parody/ allegory for American (though I guess really global, I might just think it's always American because I am) consumerism. However, other than that, the nationality is really never mentioned. They ...

I have a habit of leaving little notes everywhere. Which brings me to an idea I had the other day, that I think would rule and maybe y'all could help. I would just like to reinforce my previous heavy endorsement of Sufjan Stevens' Chirstmas things. Here is some aggresively upbeat indie christmas goodness (Its kinda bad quality, and the video is the best one with the song. You can just turn it on and change tabs).

In Spanish, i really enjoy the word "desafortunadamente", which means unfortunately. I just love saying it.

Also, the word "angst". I believe it's sound carries its meaning perfectly; lots of consonants in one syllable, and its very... conflicted-sounding. I like it.

I have to say, this movie has to have some of the DUMBEST dialogue i have heard in years. It was like they were trying to keep some speck of historical accuracy, but then made it more modern for laughs and such. That said, the animation was spectacular. I saw it in 3D, and it was a really fun ride. ...
