Re: Unpopular Musical Opinions

Only a short reply, but I pretty much agree on everything SirMustapha and I think you have a point. On re-reading my posts and a bit of reconsideration, I think that 'the purpose of the piece' is probably more than I was getting at. I also underestimated the impact of individual interpretation a lit...

Re: Unpopular Musical Opinions

But that would mean that the musical piece, as a musical piece, failed. Well, then I guess what I'm saying is that it's impossible for a piece of music TO fail, just as it is impossible for a fire to fail or for a lump of iron to fail. These are just things, found or made for a purpose that is enti...

You want Games Workshop directing the art for that.

Re: Unpopular Musical Opinions

It smells of that nasty need for validation, as when you find yourself enjoying a new piece of music, only to find out it's done by a band you despise and feel guilty and dirty afterwards, trying hard not to question your own preconceptions and prejudices. I personally love situations like this; it...

Re: Unpopular Musical Opinions

Are you missing a negation somewhere in there Yup. XP Typing late at night is a bad idea. It should read 'without the personae . . .' Then, uh, how do you explain the fact that I can put on music, and someone can come up to me and say "This is good, but I don't recognize the artist."? By ...

Re: Unpopular Musical Opinions

Music is meaningless with the personae of the performers taken into consideration. No one would listen to anything if they new nothing about who made it or why or what they do or did outside of music. It functions as the ultimate from of artistic expression, a potent leitmotif for the performers, an...

Re: "Book Burning" discussion

I admit, when I first read the comic, my understanding was that they sold a variety of the book that was specifically for kindling....the next panel made me think that the books were specifically poisoned so that those who burned it, would die. it took a few seconds before I realised I was already ...

Re: If you could combine two(or more) games

I would like to see an open world pokemon game where you actually battle in real time. Agreed. To go with the theme of the topic, Pokemon + Okami (since you play as an animal, which I presume you would do in such a pokemon game)? Pokemon + Zelda? What combination would achieve that? I'm not sure, m...

Re: Are video games a waste of time? why or why not?

Thank you very much, hopefully thats clear to the "stories makes video games have art" guys over there. Btw, interaction is the very opposite of stories (but not storytelling). Videogames, however, are better at escapism than stories. This distinction is important. Damn good point. You kn...

Re: Are video games a waste of time? why or why not?

Oh, as a form of entertainment VGs have a metric fuckton of merit, pardon the extreme language but it's true. There are some things a game can do for one that novels and movies couldn't even hope to achieve; and of the many things that the latter two do well, video games can do many as well. Of cour...

Re: If you could combine two(or more) games

Nah, these type of games (or these . I don't know my terminology rightly.) Like an illustrated Choose Your Own Adventure book, with multiple endings perhaps corresponding to dating one of the various members of the cast (with perhaps a harem ending too.) Hypothetical multiplayer meaning two PCs are...

Re: Are video games a waste of time? why or why not?

 Nitpicking. There really isn't an argument here, folks: as a form of entertainment, the worth of a video game or games is entirely the individual playing's decision. For some people, this can be massive and extremely influential, while it may be only brief and effectively mindless for others....

Re: Are video games a waste of time? why or why not?

Nice wall of text, Talon, and a good analysis. Now we've established just what video games actually do - namely, entertains the player and not a lot else - the last question is simple: what do you hope to accomplish? Just why are you playing the game? We've established what direction this vector wil...

Re: Are video games a waste of time? why or why not?

Everybody needs sometimes to do something simple, meaningless and well within their comfort zone - that's just relaxation, and without it we would go crazy. Video game are just one means to achieve this - it works well for some, REALLY well for others (i.e. me :D) and not for a few, just like all th...

Re: If you could combine two(or more) games

Someone said Devil May Cry + Viewtiful Joe + Legend of Zelda earlier. I think I cried tears of joy, until I realised that that game exists (minus the puzzles), and it's called No More Heroes . At that point, I ran out of tears. :') Edit: Also, Some suggestions: LoZ: Majora's Mask + Twilight Princess...
