Re: "3x9" Discussion (#759)

Oh good, I came in here just to make sure my brain was supposed to be broken by that.

Re: A "best image" site for my photos, like thefairest.info.

After a couple of early glitches (mainly due to a pesky internet explorer issue), the site is running well now. It's hard to get the significant amount of traffic needed for a really good ranking, but there are some interesting results already with each image participating in about 10 challenges eac...

A "best image" site for my photos, like thefairest.info.

Hey all, Inspired by thefairest.info and in response to an urge to learn a new language, I whipped up a site similar to thefairest.info (I hope it works again someday, I have an image in the top 10!) using my own photos only as a source. My intention for now is to gain an idea of which images from m...

Re: INTRO THREAD THE THIRD

I'm Rog, a programmer and amateur photographer from Sydney, Australia. I'm into doing things with multiple images that make my machine crash (giant panoramas, interesting computer generated compositions layering lots of photos in some nerdy way, etc). I've run a web design business, worked as a Java...

Re: Why did you switch to Java?

I've been using Java professionally for 10 years, and it's ok for business applications if you have a good framework. I find Spring to require too much boilerplate, so I've started looking at python and django for quick and easy web apps. I also plan to look at Groovy/Grails, which I suspect will bo...

Re: Ordering a list in python

I tried to come up with something using the sorted function, but no luck. I think your way is pretty good.

Re: "Southern Half" discussion (#753)

Perhaps he meant Southern in a "y'all" (cultural) sense, rather than a magnetic sense.

Re: Radiohead and the collapse of the music label industry

You don't think it's bad that talented musicians couldn't get recorded properly unless they changed their goals from capturing a perfect expression of the voice of their instrument to making a virtue of the limitations of their technical equipment? The ride cymbal in a drum kit alone has up to a 11...

Re: Australian Government wants ISPs to record browsing hist

This solution of course assumes that the Aus government actually somehow learns how the internet works, well enough to implement anything. My confidence in their inability is strong, but I haven't ruled out that one day I might have to move to Canada or ... somewhere. In the meantime, ssh port forwa...
