Re: Today I Learned

Today, I learned that bug testing can turn into fooling around with your program, and having too much fun to actually make any REAL progress (but hey, it's still a learning experience ;) ).

Re: The "IT DOESN'T WORK!" thread

I kinda figure it'd boil down to that. I'd share, but there's a whole lot of code, and I don't have a GitHub :P Thank you all for the help so far though! I've switched to using cereal anyways, and it's fantastic! The only issue that I have is for some reason, JSONOutputArchive leaves out a curly bra...

Re: The "IT DOESN'T WORK!" thread

Thank you for clearing all of that up, it's pretty overwhelming to try to read it in it's original format. I just searched my project, but the weird thing is I didn't find it? The only function that takes both fstream and a vector in as parameters is void fileWrite(ofstream &myFile, vector...

Re: The "IT DOESN'T WORK!" thread

That's what I was thinking, but they seemed to match up? (the function in the cpp file) vector<string> fileRead(fstream &myFile) // Reads lines from a file into a string vector, then erases empty { // strings from the string vector. vector<string> fileText; if (myFile.is_open()) { for (int i = 0...

Re: 1572: "xkcd Survey"

So are the results going to be posted anywhere? It's kind of been a month... The longer it takes, the more time there is for data to be collected! So, while we're all dying to see the results, at least we know that it should be worth the wait. ;) Except he took down the survey page about a week aft...

Re: Favorite Fractals?

I had heard of the Koch Snowflake before, but I hadn't heard of the others! Wow. Props to you on the fractal program, the screenshot is beautiful.

The Mandelbrot is fascinating. I feel enlightened... Thank you  I could stare at the second link for awhile and still be in awe by those spirals.

Re: The "IT DOESN'T WORK!" thread

Thank you for the tips and reply! I appreciate it. Everything looks a lot cleaner, and easier to understand. It's supposed to set a bool canFlirt to true, which would affect the way the program runs. I haven't gotten that far yet. The only way that I know that if statement doesn't work as intended, ...

Re: Today I Learned

That's fascinating for such a big spider is so peaceful. I just don't like bugs, so when I see these lil' guys scurrying with their fast lil' legs I'm completely freaked out. A spider has been living behind my toilet for the past few months. I never see anything caught in its web, but it's gotten la...

Re: The worst film you've seen

If you decide to give it a rewatch, let me know. I actually had no idea it'd be a musical, so maybe I went in with the wrong mindset? It just really rubbed me the wrong way. I'd elaborate, but I feel like I'd need to rewatch the movie (and finish it this time) to be more accurate. I don't remember t...

Re: The "IT DOESN'T WORK!" thread

Oh! findKey is overloaded to handle file streams and vectors. I probably forgot to mention that. Haha, deleteme isn't the best name, I just did that so I could easily find all the test code and erase it. Thank you so much for all of the helpful advice, and for being very kind about it! I really real...

Re: The worst film you've seen

Normally? I'm the type of person who gets a kick out of bad movies. I live for films like Karate Dog, Kangaroo Jack, Digimon Movie, Birdemic, Birdemic 2, etc... But this movie. THIS MOVIE takes it too far. Evita, the musical tale of Eva Peron, starring Madonna. I honestly couldn't tell if the movie ...

Re: The "IT DOESN'T WORK!" thread

I'm in a bit of a conundrum, and I have a feeling the solution will probably be stupidly simple, making me wonder why I couldn't've figured it out. I'm programming in C++ (using Xcode 6.2). Because I've just given up on trying to make the MYSQL connector work for now, I'm using a text-file system as...

I use to listen songs online. And then what happened? You got a CD player? I just look at plants. I love plants. I wish my garden window were bigger, or that I had a greenhouse. Right now, I'm growing; African Violets (10 standards, 2 miniatures, and 4 micro miniatures), Succulents (5 of them...

Re: Today I Learned

At work on Thursday morning, I felt a tickling on my face, looked down and saw a large spider crawling across my left cheekbone towards my eye. Dislodging it took a few tries, then I picked it up and moved it out to the shrubbery, because the canteen is no place for a large spider. The receptionist...

Favorite Fractals?

I'd say my favorite is Sierpinski's Triangle - probably because I'm a fan of triangles, and it's easy to draw. Though I will say the Dragon Curve is pretty groovy.

Re: Undertale

I haven't played it myself, but I've seen quite a few videos of other people playing it! It's definitely something I can dig - especially since some of my favorite artists seemed to have a hand in working on the game too. Seems like all my favorite artists end up collaborating though. Or ending up o...
