I agree with Kav that the harshness is what that specific law calls for and was probably intentional but it certainly seems to me like this violates cruel and unusual punishment and possibly equal protection under the law. Also, it probably gets around it on some stupid contrived legal technicality ...

Oh, they're not even increasing everyone to $15. The aforementioned 1099 workers? Not included. They receive no wage increase at all, even if below the $15 bar. I don't think their 1099 workers get the bonuses either (I'm 100% certain they didn't get stock). That would just be no change for them. A...

When we talk of letting everyone in, we mean letting in everyone who wants to get in. But that is a much smaller number and I don't think you have any more idea of what it is than anyone else so how do you know that it is a problem? That's fairly easy. We can look at the existing illegal immigrant ...

I'm not the one that set the number at everyone. It is difficult to say how many people we would get but you can perform a controlled increase over time to determine this and let the economy adjust to handle this. Things that should change don't have to occur all at once in a massive shock to the sy...

Re: In other news... (humorous news items)

At least replacing the "4 percent bonus for attendance" with a flat wage increase is a very good change in my opinion. An attendance bonus works out to the same thing as a penalty for missing which means if you get sick and miss days of work, you get penalized with less pay on top of that....

The origin of this particular comparison was in opposition to the idea that borders ought not exist. It's not really a strawman if that's explicitly what folks have been arguing. I agree that the difference between personal and private property doesn't really matter here.
