What-If 0123: "Fairy Demographics"

Fairy Demographics How many fairies would fly around, if each fairy is born from the first laugh of a child and fairies were immortal? If the fairies were immortal, how long would it take for us to turn them into a renewable energy source? ETA: (1/1212)^3 typo should be (1/12)^3. For a minute there...

What-If 0056: "Restraining an Airplane"

What-If 56: Restraining an Airplane If you wanted to anchor an airplane into the ground so it wouldn't be able to take off, what would the rope have to be made out of? —Connor Childerhose http://what-if.xkcd.com/imgs/a/56/747_whale.png But what if you wanted to restrain an Aeroplane? Also, I know b...

Re: 1150: Instagram

I thought of mentioning that Chad pays for his garage by putting ads on the shelves, but then I looked it up and discovered Chad has no income. Guess I can't blame him for wanting to CL all that dude's stuff. So you are saying that when some complete idiot created an utterly impossible business mod...

Re: 1146: "Honest"

Q: "Why do you love me?" A: "Honestly, because I'm partially disabled, getting fat, and I'm no longer young, so my prospects are rather limited." I do not think that word (love) means what you think it means. So what does it mean? If we can be totally honest here, I think YOU'RE...

Re: 0817: "Mutual"

The simplicity makes this one extra interesting, simply because you can ascribe so many different scenarios that the characters may be thinking of. Of course with it being xkcd the obvious choice is of love, but with the different postures it could easily be about work, rape, sports, jumping into bo...

Re: Food that gives you headaches or other reactions. . .

Oranges make me feel hot and I start to break out in a minor sweat, even when I'm just slicing them. No other ill effects other than that, and I can eat it fine, just a hot feeling, a quick rush and a slight sweat. I'm fine with other citrus fruits, so its just weird to me.

Re: "Oregon" Discussion

Does anybody remember a text adventure game with graphics. You were in a plane and crashed on this island. You had to fix the plane and get off the island. I remember bridges, voodoo stuff and other adventures. Anybody know what it's called? Sounds a lot like the game Hugo III. Definitely my most p...
