Re: 1972: "Autogyros"

If anyone is still trying to figure this out, an autogyro stall is caused by moving too fast. Since the blade turns in a circle, half of the blade is moving into the wind and the other half is moving away from the wind. The part moving away will see effectively still air at a certain speed because t...

Re: 1880: "Eclipse Review"

I was lucky enough to be within driving distance of totality, but barely. Drove 5 hours to get there, to a national park about 10 miles from carbondale, illinois to a very specific parking spot that I picked out a few months in advance here . Got there 4 minutes after the park opened, and literally ...

Re: 1452 - Jurassic World

I did the obvious thing and edited the URL to see what other comics it supported. Too much manual work. Write a script to cycle though all possible words, letters, and google search results for 'webcomic' then deploy it to a few hundred unused VM's in a datacenter that have dual OC48's because why ...

Re: The "What-If?" Book

Mr. Munroe - what happened to your equation on p.176? Your editors are slacking... wZzhDVN (Small).jpg I came for something else on that same page because it annoyed my OCD. The part above that picture talks about 4 Sieverts being the lethal level (which IIRC is the LD50) but then the math ...

Re: What-If 0085: "Rocket Golf"

Am I the only one annoyed by the caption on the last image? A golf ball floating in the dead sea will still raise the water level of the dead sea by the mass of water the golf ball displaced. It is just less than the volume of the golf ball as would occur in fresh water. Well, assuming that the golf...

Re: What-If 0038: "Voyager"

This does not answer the question I was trying to find out earlier in the week. What will be Voyager's path through the galaxy? What star will it first approach, what will be the velocity of that star compared to voyager, etc. I spent all day on monday trying to find information like this out, and i...

When calling for computer support, saying ' shib-bo-leet' (3 syllables) at the sub menu ...

Re: 1138: "Heatmap"

Actually, I'm pretty sure the equation would just be fursuit = heatstroke As someone who spent 10 hours in a Smokey the Bear suit on a 92 degree day, I can confirm this. I can also confirm that when a parent walks up to you and laughingly says "just grin and bear it" about the heat as you...

I had to join just to post this comment. I am actually in the middle of leasing a house. Last Friday, I was negotiating the lease and my lawyer was explaining some junk to me and I totally zoned out. I started thinking about how cool it would be if I were the Green Lantern, and could make my own hou...
