All right, I'm an idiot, but I'm having trouble visualizing this and it bugs me.

If the sun moves east-to-west, why does the GMT advance west-to-east? It's hard to imagine the West Coast could be earlier in time than the East Coast, when the East Coast should experience sunrise first.

How Long Could Earth Maintain Irregular Shape?

This is a question that has been bugging me for a while. If Earth were impacted by a large mass, enough to cause a significant crater in its side, how long would it take for Earth's gravity to restore it to a rounded shape?
