Re: ''Inside Joke'' Discussion (#794)

This comic wasn't particularly funny, but I did enjoy it. Of course I know that people have always had in-jokes, but why would I ever think of that? Upon encountering an in-joke in the present, I never feel that it is something crazy and exclusive to modern times — but I don't automatically think of...

Re: 日本語 (Japanese Practice)

Seems like you're over complicating it a little bit. たくさん etc can actually fit just about anywhere in the sentence, but after the particle is probably the most common.E.g 本がたくさんあります たくさんの本があります Is also perfectly acceptable and quite a common construction. 私はアジアの鳥やたかやフラミンゴなどたくさんを見ました。 This is too c...

Re: 日本語 (Japanese Practice)

Hi again everyone! At the moment I'm having real trouble with the placement of quantity words in sentences more complicated than something like 『………本がたくさんあります。』As far as we learnt in class and from the textbook, they go after the particle. For a roleplay in class we learnt a construction like: 『__をひ...

Re: 日本語 (Japanese Practice)

I was actually considering adding that in there, but since 簡単 requires a different construction (i.e., 簡単ではありません instead of やさしくありません) I didn't want to get into all that just yet, since the original sentence was at least technically correct. (Not to mention starting down the road of explaining な vs...

Re: 日本語 (Japanese Practice)

Sorry, I might not have been clear enough, 簡単 is the more used word for easy as in easy vs. difficult, as opposed to using やさしい. If that's what you mean. Ah crap, well サルも木から落ちる, after a quick search yes, apparently are more or less interchangeable, I'd just not been taught it that way and pretty m...

Re: 日本語 (Japanese Practice)

Actually she's just misusing an adjective. あまりやさしくないです would be the correct way to say "It's not very easy" using the adjective in the polite negative. However for the usage of easy vs. difficult 簡単(かんたん) is more popularly used as it's generally less ambiguous. Also ゲーム will suffice if yo...

Re: Worst song lyrics

Apart from whether it's a metaphor or not, I just don't understand what "Thunder only happens when it's raining" is meant to mean. Is it intentionally untrue? Because I am reasonably sure that thunder quite often happens when it is in fact not raining. :? This has always troubled me.

This is exactly the kind of cringe-inducing yet funny pun that science teachers at school love to use. :)

Holst's Planets, especially Mars, Bringer of War. Almost all of Fauré's Requiem - in particular Libera Me which is an amazingly powerful piece of music and huge fun to sing in a choir. Agnus Dei is a close second from that Requiem as it slowly builds.
