Re: The Benefit of Culture

I don't want to make this into a political thing (cause that's not where I'm intending for it to go), but I think that this is what makes a country like America great. No offense to people out there from other countries, I have no ill feelings toward any other country (save a few that shall remain n...

Re: JDBC Help

BTW, I hope that isn't a real student's academic record. You shouldn't just make that kind of thing publicly available. Please at least blank out the personal details (student ID, names, email etc.) first. Nope, it's not a legit database. I don't have access to that kind of stuff. It's just a bunch...

Re: JDBC Help

haha yeah I guess that comic def applies... The reason I call the updateInfo() at the end is because the gui is actually fourfold: The first section has the student info, the second has the degree info, the third has the grades, and the fourth has all of the classes the student needs to take for tha...

Re: JDBC Help

Thanks for the help. I have another problem however, this time with a different program. In this, I've got a database of students, their grades, the courses they can take, and their majors. I've got a Change Major button, that is supposed to fill in all of the new major's info into the fields on the...

JDBC Help

Ok, so I've been working on a little program using databases. The program brings up a gui, gives the user fields to input information into, and then is supposed to let the user add the info in the fields to the database. This works out fine, but every time I use the "add" feature, it gives...

Re: Anyone else like horror books?

You wanna read some good horror? Try Richard Matheson, the guy who wrote I Am Legend. The book was much different from the movie.

Oh and btw, this guy was Stephen King's inspiration for becoming a horror writer.

Re: A puzzling decryption...

Hey, whatever works....I'm still pretty psyched that someone was able to figure it out. I guess my friend'll have to come up with something a little more devious this time...:)

Re: A puzzling decryption...

Wow! That's awesome! The first quote is from a Bob Seger/Metallica song, arguably one of my favorites, so I'm assuming that's why he chose it. I"m assuming that I messed up on the transferring of the ciphertext (which was handwritten) or possibly because he messed it up at his end. That's prett...

Re: A puzzling decryption...

No, my name is not Alan. Sorry. I was talking to my friend, trying to get him to spill the beans, but he wouldn't have it. Instead, he gave me a shorter cipher, encoded the same way he said he did the first one. toaitsnhtmortimsassjttitsthaswhatiytbreithploenxmslorg He also gave me a hint about it, ...

Re: A puzzling decryption...

Yeah, he wouldn't tell me what it was, or how he did it. I guess that would be too easy. :D

I tried some of the things on there, but they all just give me weirder answers.

A Puzzling Decryption.....

I posted this in General last night, but was informed that this was probably the better place to put it. Here goes: A friend of mine is really big on cryptography, and from time to time will send me things for me to decrypt(they're pretty simple really, so I'm not very proud of myself). This time he...

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll wait for a mod to move this so that we don't have multiple threads in different areas...?

A puzzling decryption...

Ok, I hope this is the right place to put this, but I wasn't sure if there was any other better place, so here we go. A friend of mine is really big on cryptography, and from time to time will send me things for me to decrypt(they're pretty simple really, so I'm not very proud of myself). This time ...

Re: Obama apologizes for Special Olympics joke

Ok, I can see that it's great to have a sense of humor. It's a great thing to have, in fact, especially considering he's got an extremely stressful job. My problem is that he's doing all of this while the country is up sh** creek without a paddle. I don't expect him to be working at all hours of the...

Sudo Sandwich-making Robot

While browsing the 'net today, I stumbled upon THIS through Engadget. It was inspired by xkcd according to the creator, so I figured I'd post this up here.

Cheers.
