Re: Is Java that bad?

Somewhat bit dubious history-writing there. C# is a blatant copy of Java. Having started programming in Java, and then switching most of my coding to C#, I would have to disagree. While the syntax is very similar (to the point of being able to copy/paste simple code between the two without errors),...

Re: Spoiler Button Coding

lol. Unfortunately a quick google search never returned a good set of instructions for installing mods, and the documentation on all of the mods I found for the spoiler during my LONG google search sucked. I was successful in finding the correct code on another forum after a while, so here it is: BB...

Re: Spoiler Button Coding

Let's say someone who sucks at Javascript, maybe me for this hypothetical situation, wanted to add a spoiler tag just like the one on this forum to his own personal phpBB forum... Where would this hypothetical person find a tutorial telling what code needs added into which pages?

Re: Problems with Galleria and Jquery

I made the mistake of changing several things at once with my code, and now it's broken lol. I had a few functions in my head.php file that were making my source code look like crap (I wrote them to echo the html code instead of just typing the code in, and so I was getting all kinds of run-on code ...

Re: XKCD Batch Downloading

Ok, so I tried Mat's version of the script, and it seemed to work pretty well. There was one issue that I noticed though. Looking at the code (as a n00b Java programmer who knows nothing about Python) I see this structure: #Check the main XKCD page site = urllib.urlopen("http://www.xkcd.com/&qu...

Re: XKCD Batch Downloading

Try: RegExp = re.compile('^\s*<img src=".*" title=".*" alt=".*" />.*') Although that will choke on the link-pictures. That seems to have worked wonders, but now I have another problem. I get an error when trying to open the first 90 comics saying that the image file is...

Re: Problems with Galleria and Jquery

Hmmm.... no luck. If it helps, here is the code when it is parsed by php... maybe we can find a clue here: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"...

Re: XKCD Batch Downloading

In order to not have to deal with the indentation issue, I re-copied and pasted the code into a Python IDE with auto-indentation. I was thrilled when my terminal window began listing the comics as they were downloaded. There was however one problem: Instead of downloading the comics it downloaded th...

Re: XKCD Batch Downloading

you should double check that the tabbing is done right Unfortunately I am completely unfamiliar with Python Tabbing rules, and thus have NO IDEA if it is tabbed correctly. Does anyone have the Python file (tabbed correctly and currently working) hosted anywhere?? If not, I would be more than happy ...

Re: XKCD Batch Downloading

I'll admit immediately that I know nothing about Python (I'm a Java guy), but I have been trying to make this script useable for Linux. Here's the code so far: #Downloads all XKCD comics #import Web, Reg. Exp, and Operating System libraries import urllib, re, os #RegExp for the EndNum variable Curre...

Problems with Galleria and Jquery

I have been trying to get a workable image gallery on a website I am working on, and Galleria seems like a very nice solution. I followed the tutorial at http://devkick.com/lab/galleria/ , but have had a difficult time actually getting the gallery working. I know *ABSOLUTELY NOTHING* about Javascrip...

Re: ¡Hablamos español! (Spanish Practice)

El Espanol era mi especializacion en la universidad hace ~2 o 3 anos antes de cambiar a las ciencias de computadoras. Ami me encanta practicarlo. Re: Good programming music

I'm hardcore ADD... so if I listen to music I end up with some interesting code in the end...

Code: Select all

//System.out.println("Whatever tomorrow brings I'll be there"); <- How in the world did this get here?

In my intro web design class, it was not uncommon for me to have the entire lyrics to a song in comments in the page, or the url for an awesome Youtube video. I <3 random comments.

Re: XKCD Batch Downloading

Being completely unfamiliar with Python, how would I adapt the script to work on Linux? Other than creating a folder for the comics and editing the script to reflect that location (I know enough to do that), I'm not sure what all I would need to change to allow for /'s instead of \'s in the filesyst...
