Re: Judaism and Intellectualism

From what I have seen, whatever "Judaism" that may be practiced, education is something valued, be it the advancement of secular knowledge of "cultural" Jews, to the advancement of Religious studies of the "Ultra-Orthodox". During the times of the Talmud's codification,...

I have a shiny new Dell Netbook with Ubuntu on it. FOr various reasons, I may need to have windows on at least one system in my house, either a laptop or this netbook.. do you think the netbook might be a good choice? Can the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 really give a good showing with XP or Vista?

I don't dispute that Jews have a right to live in Israel, I just think that they shouldn't have taken the UN resolution that partitioned Palestine into separate Jewish and Arab states. I disagree with this plan because it gave the Jews, who hadn't lived there in great numbers for over 1000 years, c...

The shower thing is almost a non starter, most showers for the military are single person stalls these days, barring a few places that have not been modernized yet. Re: Homosexuals in the military

Again, it depends on whether or not you see the military as a means to effect social change. I don't think that's the question at all. The military is one of our most conservative organizations, and as such, it will basically *never* be a tool for social progress. The military racially integrated b...

Pander, I would suggest that hating someone because they're racist isn't that far removed from hating someone because they're homosexual or because of their skin pigmentation. i.e. how can you ever expect to defeat racism if you refuse to acknowledge racist people? Yelling them down in public isn't...

Frankly, the lists say more about the list makers than anything else. If you know the slant, ANY new source can be used reliably, even if only to tell you what did NOT happen. Also, different news sources slant more and less in different areas. News sources that in general are not anti-mac, may stil...

I think a popular argument on the side of people for keeping DADT and other inequality practices in place is because if the US isn't ready for full equal rights for gays, then the military isn't.
