Re: "Typewriter" Discussion

How exactly did the "backspace" buttons work on a typewriter?
Interestingly enough, while not quite as old as typewriters, the doctor's office I work at STILL uses MS Dos.
I'm not exactly sure how that's happened, but I think it's because the owner is too lazy to update the system.

Re: "House of Pancakes" Discussion

I didn't like this one too much, but it was ok.
On another note, is this the first xkcd so esoteric that it explicitly said what was being referenced?

Re: "xkcd Loves the Discovery Channel" discussion

A strip like this should've been saved to be the last of them all (when Mr. Munroe decides to give up cartooning), but I'm not going to complain at such awesomeness being exposed early.

Re: "Purity" Discussion

Obviously the analogy mentioned in the Alt-Text is the opposite of the truth. The satisfaction from math is much moreso than that of Physics, and I'm sure most normal people would agree that the satisfaction from sex is much moreso than that of masturbation.

Re: "Math Paper" Discussion

I wish i was smart enough to understand this comic. :P :P Zmonge, it is an issue of knowledge not intelligence. Ok, backing up. Define \sigma(n) to be the sum of the positive divisors of n. So for example \sigma(4) =1+2+4=7. Note that this includes the number itself as a divisor. No...

Re: "Math Paper" Discussion

How do we define the divisor function for a gaussian integer, is it just the number of irreducibles that are factors of the number?

I made the exact same point about how kibibyte/gibibyte/... all sound ridiculous and are impossible to take seriously to a friend once.

Re: "The Drake Equation" Discussion

I find it humorous how everyone has misconceptions that if we discover aliens, they would both be extremely superior and extremely different in appearance as a given. While the second is probable, if we were the ones to find an alien species, it seems as though it's more likely they are inferior, no?

And Jurassic Bark, but I'm gonna ignore that, so whatever. Woo, by the time you read this, I will have posted 13.37% of my posts in RD... Well it doesn't contradict Jurassic Bark, it corrects it (IT SHOULDN'T HAVE). But it does directly contradict luck of the Fryish, since it's said in there that F...

Re: To Be Wanted Discussion

It seems that this is sort of a sequel to http://www.xkcd.com/308/ . The girl asked him to go an adventure, but he denied her, so now she is going on it on her own. There, she is disappointed by his refusal, and hopes that he is thinking of her having adventures. To support this, the guy is a cowork...

Re: Bender's Big Score (watch out for spoilers)

I absolutely loved it. It's got to be the best movie I've seen in the past year. Of course, it was about as good as I'd expected, but of course I was slightly scared that the futurama writers had sold out in 4-5 years of absence. The whole thing was brilliant, and although it seems that I took longe...
