Re: 2081: Middle Latitudes

I've often thought middle latitudes were the best. You get actual seasons, and you don't have to deal with 24 hours of daylight or 24 hours of sunlight.

Re: 1537: "Types"

I disagree with 5 - surely it should be: " ' + ' " #5 looks "correct" to me. Here's my interpretation: Instead of "" + "" , as most languages would parse it, the comic is saying that it is parsed as follows: " "+" " In other words, instead...

Re: 1529: "Bracket"

Am I the only one who was surprised that this was not clickable/interactive?

I was expecting people to be able to fill out the bracket via clicking. It would certainly be fun to see who got picked the most and other sorts of data.

Re: 1345: Answers

Most people look at me strangely when I say I'm interested or have been interested in learning about sleep.

To me, it's always been absolutely mind boggling that so many people know so little about something we spend roughly 1/3 our life doing.

Re: 1132: "Frequentists vs. Bayesians"

My first thought was that the need to ask the question of the neutrino detector was an indication that there was reason to suspect the sun exploding. i.e. The probability of sun explosion wasn't necessarily small. I actually found it funny because of the clever bet interpretation (that he wouldn't p...

Re: 1110:"Click and Drag"

Yeah, the point of the comic is that it's huge, vast, colossal, enormous... All that space to explore to find everything, or you can just explore some and still find something to enjoy. There isn't one singular punchline - though the extreme left and right each work as an "end". It's okay...

Re: 1110:"Click and Drag"

The world is bigger than you think it is, and if you spend enough time you can find some interesting things in it. Much like the comic. So it was just that it was big? I feel like spending a lot of time on something and making it big doesn't inherently make it good, comic or otherwise. (I hope you ...

Re: 1110:"Click and Drag"

So I meant to post this closer to the day the comic came out, but I never had a chance, but here goes anyway. A couple of my friends and I are huge xkcd fans and read it pretty much every day it comes out, and all of us just didn't understand this comic. We originally just didn't care for it, but af...

Re: ####: "Ten Thousand"

Since it's talking about people hearing things for the first time, I wonder if it was intentionally put up for only ~1 day. It could make sense that now we have some fraction of the xkcd fanbase hearing about it for the first time each day.

Re: 1036: "Reviews"

Let me begin by saying that I'm a very picky consumer who, when purchasing, strives for quality. Before Online Reviews: I'd drive from store to store, looking at different options. Asking friends for advice, who half time time had no useful info. Most expensive objects I buy, even holding/seeing the...

Re: 1019: "First Post"

While I definitely get the premise of the comic, the wording seems off and is highly confusing. "Paying college students to post the first few comments ... giving you the last word" If the comments are posted in the order they are submitted, why does the first post give you the last word. ...

I can't believe no one has commented on the 31.12% box. I couldn't stop laughing when I read "Windows 95 debuts. OJ found not guilty."

Re: 1004: "Batman"

I must say I really don't get this comic. Is it just a reference to the old Batman movie with the Joker's "dressed up as a bat" line? If so, I'm not sure I see the humor in it. If not, then I'm completely lost. No, it's not a reference to that. Here is the best way I can explain it if you...

Re: 0906: "Advertising Discovery"

Hmm. I think I received a different sort of training from Wikipedia. Wikipedia must have trained me to filter out the citation notices. The first time I read the comic, I didn't even notice the blue numbers until I read the text below it. Strangely enough, this happens to me with other things as wel...
