Re: 1145: "Sky Color"

The cones in your eyes aren't adapted to seeing violet as much as they're adapted to seeing blue. Mainly you see red, green, and blue, and the brain just infers the rest. Also, the sun doesn't put out the same amount of light across the whole spectrum. There's a lot more green and blue coming out of...

Re: 0831: "Weather Radar"

Similarly, if you give people an MP3 player and put it on random play, then if it plays the same song twice before it plays all the songs (or sometimes if it even plays the same *artist* anywhere close to another song by that artist), then they get the idea that it's biased or non-random. However, ...

The thing language aficionados often seem to miss is that the language is just a matter of choice. language isnt a matter of choice, you use whats best for the job. Now talking about things that have biases; I'm pretty sure the xkcd "random" button is biased. I won't ever see some strips, but others strips will come up like every 20-30 clicks. But that could just be my brain being "interesting." (Yes, I click the random button a LOT) "...

Re: Sample (#780) discussion

Oh yes, absolutely. There's this one song that has a sample in it, sort of in the background, that sounds exactly like the ring sound of my old Nokia cell phone. Even though I haven't had that phone in ten years, every time I hear the song and hear that sound, I reach for my phone. It's annoying as ...

Never had any of those. All my dreams involve flying or Jessica Alba. Except for that one that where I was flying WITH Jessica Alba... man, that was a good one... Anyway, the "try to run but can't" is a standard sleep paralysis dream. If it happens to you a lot, then you're probably pretty...

This works about 70% of the time, in my experience. Pick a number between 50 and 100. But, make sure both the digits are even. 68 Doesn't work every time, but a surprising amount of the time it does. I've also found it works better if you put a longer pause in between the two instructions, give the ...

After all this time, I still don't understand, P, NP, and NP-complete, except that I know NP-complete is hard/impossible. Maybe because I still don't get polynomial time? What the hell. This comic strip convinced me to look at Python. Reading the fact that whitespace matters convinced me to stop looking. Seriously, that's the dumbest thing in a language that I've ever seen.
