That's a strange problem. I am also using Arch on my thinkpad (t420s) and so far I had no problem (neither touchpad nor video). Do you have Optimus on your machine ? if yes, have you tried turning it off ?

I think I am gonna go with the Fermi book, because it seems to be very concise and I prefer this kind of writing.
