Re: C Programming Problem [EASY]

Thanks for writing that response, made it a whole lot more easier to understand, I was dreading going into the world of memory allocation but I guess I had to do it at some point!

Re: C Programming Problem [EASY]

I appreciate your help Yakk, I am coding in C, not C++ so it's all worthwhile :) I suspected it might be something to do with malloc, will have a look at it now, thanks

Re: C Programming Problem [EASY]

Ok I understand that now, I thought it was something else. I have tried to type-cast with no luck changing: char fnD1[256]; fnD1 = (char)dirent_ptr->d_name; filesD1[i].fileNameD1 = fnD1; that looks wrong and didn't work so I tried: char fnD1; fnD1 = *dirent_ptr->d_name; filesD1[i].fileNameD1 = fnD1;...

Re: C Programming [EASY]

Am I being an idiot but I tried the following: declared a string var (outside of the loop): char* fnD2; inside the while loop: fnD2 = dirent_ptrD2->d_name; filesD2[j].fileNameD2 = fnD2; I thought fnD2 might be somewhere that 'I can control' , but apparently not, the value still changes (which makes ...

Re: C Programming [EASY]

Thanks for your help and feedback, I'm going to have a re-write now. I thought it might be something like this but logically I couldn't see where I was going wrong.

C Programming Problem [EASY]

Hi All, i've written this program and theres a bug I just can't seem to get rid off, ive tried lots of stuff to the point where some code might seem a bit weird or unneccessary, so apologies for this. I've been trying to solve this 'bug' for 3 days now and its really getting to me. I started C progr...

Re: EVE Online

Hey all, I was thinking about trying to get into eve again, ive tried before and failed because of the timezone differences with the people I met, the lack of a corp and finding it hard to get to grips with the game. Is there anyone with a noob-friendly corp based on GMT that I could join?

Half-Marathon Training

After years of laziness whilst at university ive decided to get my act together and I put myself down for the cardiff half-marathon in october (13.something miles), Ive raised some money for charity, bought some snazzy running shoes which have been specially picked for my feet thanks to a high-speed...

Re: Is a university degree in the UK worth the money?

I also believe that if you live abroad for 5+ years (Im not sure on the exact figure, I might be wrong) then your loan gets forgiven, I've heard of a few people tottering off to Australia for this purpose. Turns out there are rumours similar to what ive heard but if it is possible it certainly isnt...

Re: Is a university degree in the UK worth the money?

I believe that the majority of the Universities in England (not sure about wales/scotland) are charging the maximum they can (£9000, the new maximum, thanks clegg), regardless of this, I think if your doing a worthwhile degree then university is worth the money (what degree's are 'worthwhile' enough...

Re: Speed-reading?

I have the opposite problem, I read too fast and I often catch myself almost missing good parts of a story (however small they are) just because Ive glanced over them and not taken them in properly. I would recommend just reading more, if you try and speed-read you will find yourself having to go ba...
