Re: Python with braces?

The OP smells like a troll, though. Not trying to troll, I really want to use python, but the few times I tried it out I was too weirded out by it. I guess I'll give it another shot. And the interpreter thing about future import was checked into the python svn by somebody under the guise to “Improv...

Python with braces?

I have very little experience with python, but have coded in many other languages before. I would love to use python, but I really miss those braces, the thought of whitespace with semantic value horrifies me (after a brief stint with the esoteric language of Whitespace). Is there a way to code in p...

Guess Who?

So I saw this article on digg that linked to a video that used race as the attribute for a question for the Guess Who board game, and was amazed to see that question narrowed down the choices to one person. That got me thinking, is there an optimal strategy for Guess Who? What kind of questions woul...

CMS suggestion

I've been playing around with this newfangled CMS called Joomla, has anyone else used it?

Does anyone know of a good framework for making a media upload site? Something with logins, profiles, upload, search, and download of files? Has anyone done this with Joomla?

Re: Starting Electronics

Well if there's one near you, I'd try looking at Fry's Electronics (http://www.outpost.com) as they have some neat little kits you can buy that let you solder together things like a small traffic light, etc. They're decently priced and come with instructions. If your soldering is not the best or you...

Re: Reversing rm -rf ?

Perhaps there should be a safety monitor for newbies to ubuntu where if u type a command like rm -rf that it warns you of what it is about to do? Of course it could be turned off, but maybe not, because this is starting to sounds like Vista UAC...

Re: 日本語

Yea, I took Spanish in high school, and it was fun knowing that if I ever got in a real pickle, I could pick an English word with a latin root and say it with the Spanish ending and have a real word.

Re: 日本語

Ok, I need some suggestions, all of the classrooms at my school have computers. Sometimes we have study sessions for Japanese in different rooms. Sometimes the computers don't have the language bar showing on the desktop, so does anyone know of any programs that are like some small exe that lets me ...

Re: 日本語

I was thinking about that...hmmm Are there any good firefox extensions to right click on kanji and get the reading? If we had something like that, then I guess that would help. As far as limiting ourselves to basic kanji, I agree to the point that if we use more kanji, that will make it more familia...

Language Study Software

For those who are learning a foreign language, what software, if any, do you use to help study or practice said language? Re: Programming and first-year composition

I think you could use examples from many different natural languages to demonstrate how grammar can affect nuance. For instance in Spanish, the whole indirect object placement thing is interesting because you could say "Maria le da un libro a Juan" or "A Juan Maria le da un libro"...

As a fellow programmer, I've found that a big difference between programming and math is that when you're learning to code, you have a compiler that is able to give you meaningful feedback as to what might possibly be wrong and where. No such analog exists in math unless someone is watching your wor...

Well, to be fair, the Discrete Math class goes over some of what you mentioned about graph and set theory and a CS class about algorithms goes over more about that graph theory. I don't mean to really troll, I'm just curious if whether or not Computer Science has or ever will evolve to a state where...

The Role of Math in Computer Science

I know this might be a pretty touchy subject, but I'd like to hear your opinions, What role should Math play in a Computer Science major at a university? I've always thought it'd be cool to buy a giant warehouse out in the desert or something and start a business doing real-world adaptations to videogames.
