Re: 1167: "Star Trek into Darkness"

Sooo.... can we rename this thread? :D Definitely! I'm going to invoke xkcd:RM here. Discuss. I'm torn. The name of the comic, and thus of the thread, should reflect the name of the article on wikipedia. On the other hand, the lower-case i here can be taken to be referring to the state of th...

Because that way you think it's going to be a physics joke. Joke probably wasn't the word I meant, but It's 1:20 in the morning, and I can't think of the actual word.

Re: Awesome Teacher Quotes

A problem from my Calculus class yesterday went something like this: "Jurassic Park has 200 feet of fence with which to enclose the velociraptors against the back wall of the lab. What is the largest area that Ian Malcolm make the enclosure?" I probably forgot some parts. She has a printou...

Re: How much are you paying for books this semester?

Technically, I'm paying $33.18 (used physics book). Factoring in my regular books (I could get from library, but I'll probably buy), and test prep books: $354.96 (includes full price for the physics book). With my textbooks (yay highschool), it's $1042.81 (full price).

Re: Mac vs PC

I'm typing this on a Macbook. That doesn't mean I like it, but it was my only choice. The cost difference is pretty big (Most c2d comps cost <$600 and I can get a 15" Lenovo w/ an i7 for half the price of a MBP). So far, I've had (in order) a disk drive scratch everything that went into it, a b...

Re: Firearms!

I'm resurrecting this thread to ask some opinions. I recently moved out of the not-so-great state of New York and am looking to get a pistol. It will be largely for target shooting, but may also become a carry pistol. I've taken a look at the S&W M&P40, the Beretta Px4 and the Ruger LC9. I ...

Arch, maybe? It's pretty much the most minimal distro that I know of, excluding Linux From Scratch (you might want to look into that, too).

Re: I'd like to know the name of this book/short story/comic

Okay, my turn. I remember reading this book when I was in sixth grade (5yrs ago), but it definitely wasn't a kid's book. I spent a long time looking for it a few years ago, but now I can't find my bookmark. It involved a kid or teenager/young adult who was on a non-earth planet. He helps raise "...

I decide that the coin landed heads up, causing the pile to return to normality; and I leave a Quantum Eigenstate Device there, that will go to Earth Prime and destroy all the Earths if Batman doesn't stop it. (I love comic book based movie plots)

Re: Your Schedule

I'm a sophomore in HS, and wee follow a "Block schedule" (most of you have probably had something like this, it goes "A" day: 1st, 3rd, 5th,7th, and "B" day: 2nd, 4th, 6th, and a rotating period. Bit I digress, here's my schedule. 1st: Algebra 2 (my best class) 2nd: Che...
