Terrible Java code

I came across these three classes the other day. public class AnObject { public void doSomeStuff() { if( this instanceof SpecialObject ) { //do stuff } else if( this instanceof OtherSpecialObject ) { //do some other stuff } } } public class SpecialObject { /*nothing*/ }; public class OtherSpecialObj...

Re: "Nerd Sniping" Discussion

Wouldn't the resistance be 0? I actually came up with a number that would satisfy this in my Calculus class: 1-.99999... It comes out to .000...0001 (infinite zeros). It can be represented as "the limit of y such that y=1/x as x goes to infinity". Since it could never really reach zero it...

Re: "1337: Part 4" Discussion

Can someone explain exactly what the alt text is about? I think it's about shredding the contents of the drive, but more specifically?

Re: "Priorities" Discussion

I remember a class I took in college. The professor had unusually strict grading and unusually hard tests, and the class average was actually around a 35 or so. He had 3 tests over the course of the semester, and while he did grade on a curve, he did so by adding the total score of all three tests t...

Re: "Priorities" Discussion

You know,
A
A
A
A
A
is in alphabetical order. Since the student feels that he MUST fail to maintain alphabetical order, we can deduce he must also be failing at least one other class.

It's actually an interesting programming puzzle. I'm 99% certain finding the absolute best solution is NP-complete, as I'm pretty confident I can reduce a Hamiltonian cycle problem to it. If it is, that's one heck of a quick programming sample. Whoever they are, they don't want any old code monkey.

When I was a kid, my absolute favorite movie was "The Cat From Outer Space." I must've watched it 100 times.

If you tell anyone, I'll kill you all with my telekinetic collar thing.

Facebook stole xkcd?

So, I'm cruising facebook, and I see they have a recruitment puzzle. Yay, I like puzzles. But at the top of the puzzle is a large image that looks suspiciously familiar, so I checked the archives and sure enough, it's #173. Now, xkcd is under an attribution non-commercial license, and this appears t...

I created an account just to let you all know that if your background is in cryptography that is a darn funny comic. Ah, man, I was showing that around to people. As a quick explanation, in discussions of cryptography and encodings, etc, Bob is the standard name of the party sending information, and...
